Can You Have Success Without Excellence?
May 13, 2008 by oprahproject
If I was generally asking that question, I believe the answer would be “yes.” There’s a lot of people making money (if that is the way you want to define success) or getting promoted without putting forth an excellent product.
What I’m really talking about is that I’ve managed to misplace the “Excellence” issue somewhere in my apartment. We’re pretty much under a flood of magazines, so I’ve been walking around with this issue like it’s a security blanket. Problem is, since I’ve dragged it from room to room, I don’t know its last known whereabouts. Shame too, because the calendar had some useful stuff in it too.
Since I’m feeling behind, I’m going to head right on to the “Success” issue (Sept. 2001) and see if that will help me figure out a better way to have my writing see more eyes/the right eyes. Once I find “Excellence,” I’ll pick it back up.
Some other housekeeping: The May issue has an Oprah’s Big Give contest, which I have thought about entering, but I don’t really want to start a program (it could be a one-time event, it could be something that turns into an ongoing program, but the point was to not work with an existing group). I have a slight problem with the “starting your own cause-based group” because I think it spreads money a little too thin. We’ll see. I only have a couple of days to write this and get it postmarked though.
