I own every issue of O, the Oprah Magazine (hereforafter called “Oprah”). At first it was cute–there were only a few issues, and since they’re all themed, if I had a particular problem, I could pull out that issue and read about it until I felt better.
Now my problem is eight years’ worth of magazines stacked in my apartment. How best to get rid of them? Oh, I could just recycle them all easily, but then I’d feel some Calvinist guilt about never reading most of them.
Now I’ll attempt to read them all before our lease is up at the end of March. Oh, I don’t think we’re moving, but I want to be prepared in case we do. Nothing says a fun move like several boxes of magazines.
I may read these in order, but I may also jump around a bit. Some themes have been recycled, and, well, the September 2007 issue came yesterday, and I really want to see what I must have for fall.
What I’d really hope to discover is if a self-help magazine can actually make you a better person. Oprah’s raison d’etre is to help you live your best life. Can this magazine help me live mine?
